About

Contaminated Forms is the result of a three-year research project funded by the Research Vice-rectory and supported by the School of Architecture of the University of Costa Rica. The exhibition focuses on the transformation of Costa Rican banana-producing regions—the Caribbean and the Central and South Pacific—under the United Fruit Company (UFCo) during the early 20th century. It explores how industrial agriculture reshaped biodiverse environments into controlled monocultures governed by a perverse capitalist production logic, where chemicals played a central role in altering spatial dynamics between humans, non-humans, and land.

Formas Contaminadas es el resultado de un proyecto de investigación de tres años financiado por la Vicerrectoría de Investigación a través del Fondo Semillas, y apoyado por la Escuela de Arquitectura de la Universidad de Costa Rica. La exposición examina la transformación de las regiones productoras de banano de Costa Rica (el Caribe y el Pacífico Sur) bajo el dominio de la United Fruit Company (UFCo) a principios del siglo veinte. Explora cómo la agricultura industrial transformó sistemas ecológicos complejos en monocultivos gobernados por una lógica de producción capitalista perversa, donde los químicos jugaron un papel central y alteraron las dinámica espaciales entre humanos, otros organismos y el suelo.
