Architect, teacher, architectural historian
I am a brown Latin American woman, architect, historian of colonized environments and current representative for Engineering and Architecture on the University Council of the University of Costa Rica.
Soy una mujer latinoamericana, arquitecta, historiadora de entornos colonizados y prácticas espaciales, y actual representante de IngenierÃa y Arquitectura ante el Consejo Universitario de la Universidad de Costa Rica.
Associate Professor at the University of Costa Rica, where I teach at the School of Architecture and the Doctoral Program in Society and Culture.
My work examines how uneven power relations and colonial legacies have shaped territories in Latin America and the Caribbean. I focus on spatial histories of empire, segregation, labor, violence, environmental destruction, and resistance. My current research explores the infrastructural and architectural histories of tropical cash crops in Central America—particularly bananas, sugarcane, and pineapple—and their relationship to monoculture, corporate capitalism, land depletion, and the built environment.
Between January 1, 2026 and December 31, 2029, I hold the elected position of representative for Engineering and Architecture on the University Council of the University of Costa Rica.

Mi trabajo examina cómo las relaciones desiguales de poder y los legados coloniales han configurado territorios en América Latina y el Caribe. Me interesa estudiar historias espaciales del imperio, la segregación, el trabajo, la violencia, la destrucción ambiental y las formas de resistencia. Actualmente investigo las historias infraestructurales y arquitectónicas de cultivos tropicales de exportación en Centroamérica —particularmente banano, caña de azúcar y piña— y sus vÃnculos con el monocultivo, el capitalismo corporativo, el agotamiento de la tierra y el entorno construido.
